2011 represents Team HARE’s 10th year of competition but also marks the first year that the team will enter the Class 2 competition with a cutting edge electric racing car.
Currently known only as Project ZJS, the all new concept boasts a state of the art drive train comprising a pair of high torque DC motors and an ultra compact lithium ion power supply, capable of performance figures to rival the petrol engine. The design of the car is heavily focused on sustainability, incorporating factors such as the end of life recyclability of components and reduction of Carbon Dioxide emissions in both competition and manufacture.
The electric team consists of just four dedicated MEng students:
Tom Morton – Team Leader and Drivetrain Design
(IMechE Frederic Barnes Waldron Best Student Prize Winner)
James Pepper – Driver Environment
Rob Brown – Electrical Systems
Joe Carter – Battery Containment and Braking
The car is being developed alongside the petrol car at Team HARE HQ and will debut at this year’s Silverstone event. Watch this space for updates!
